Limestone cliffs and pine trees in the Sapadere valley, where the Dwarf’s Cave lies

Dwarf’s Cave (Cüceler Mağarası)

A small stalactite cave on the Sapadere road

The Dwarf’s Cave — Cüceler Mağarası in Turkish, also sold as the “Goblin’s Cave” or “Dwarfs Cave” — is a small stalactite cave in the Sapadere valley, reached by a short flight of steps from the road. Low ceilings and tight passages mean most adults have to duck, which is where the name comes from.

It cannot compare in size with Dim Cave, but it takes only ten or fifteen minutes and lies directly on the way to the canyon, so many coach tours include it. No freely licensed photograph of the interior exists, so our picture shows the valley cliffs around it.

Top things to do: Dwarf’s Cave (Cüceler Mağarası)

Walk the short loop

A lit path leads past stalactites, stalagmites and small columns in a few connected chambers. Expect narrow sections, damp steps and a refreshing drop in temperature.

Enjoy the valley view

The terrace by the entrance looks over orchards and the wooded slopes of the Sapadere valley — a good place for tea while your group regathers.

Pair it with the canyon

The cave works best as a brief add-on before or after Sapadere Canyon; on its own it does not justify the drive.

How to get to Dwarf’s Cave (Cüceler Mağarası)

  • The cave is signposted from the Demirtaş–Sapadere road, a few kilometres before the canyon.
  • Many bus tours stop here; check the itinerary for “Dwarfs Cave”, “Cüceler Cave” or “Goblin’s Cave”.
  • With a hire car, simply stop on the way up or down — parking is by the roadside.

Insider tips

  • There is a small separate entrance fee, usually paid in cash and often not included in tour prices.
  • Mind your head, and skip it if you dislike confined spaces.
  • The steps can be wet: wear proper shoes.
