Getting to Sapadere Canyon

About an hour from Alanya: east along the coast, then up into the mountains from Demirtaş.

Sapadere Canyon lies about 45 km from central Alanya. The route is simple — east on the D400 coast road to Demirtaş, then inland — but the last 18–20 km climb a narrow, winding valley road, which is why most visitors let someone else drive.

Option 1: an organised tour

This is how the great majority of people visit. A coach, minibus or jeep collects you from your hotel in the morning, and the day normally includes the Dim River and a cave as well. Prices start at roughly €15–35 per person. Compare them on the tours page or read our ranking.

Option 2: hire car or scooter

From Alanya follow the D400 east past Kestel, Mahmutlar and Kargıcak. At Demirtaş, about 25 km from the centre, brown signs for “Sapadere Kanyonu” point inland. The road runs through banana gardens, then climbs through pine forest and the village of Sapadere to a car park at the canyon gate. It is surfaced all the way but narrow in places, with tight bends and tour coaches coming the other way: drive slowly and use your horn on blind corners. Scooters manage it, but it is a long, hot ride.

Option 3: taxi or private transfer

A taxi from Alanya will take you up, wait and bring you back; agree a round-trip price including waiting time before you set off, or ask your hotel to arrange a driver. Split between four people it can be reasonable, though rarely cheaper than a tour.

Option 4: dolmuş

Public transport is the weak link. Frequent buses and dolmuşes run along the coast from Alanya through Mahmutlar and Kargıcak to Demirtaş. From there only a few services a day continue to Sapadere village, timed for villagers rather than visitors, and the canyon gate is a further 3 km. Ask for current times at the Alanya dolmuş station and do not rely on a late return. If you miss it, a taxi from Demirtaş is the fallback.

Which airport?

Gazipaşa-Alanya (GZP) is about 40 km east of Alanya and by far the closer airport — its seasonal and charter flights are worth seeking out. Antalya (AYT) has many more flights but is roughly 125 km west of Alanya: allow around two hours by transfer, more in summer traffic. Shuttle and private transfers from both airports can be booked in advance on GetYourGuide.

Parking and arrival

There is a car park by the entrance, with restaurants, toilets and stalls around it. Tickets are bought at the gate. From there the boardwalk starts almost immediately — see the canyon guide for the walk itself.

Tip: staying in Mahmutlar or Kargıcak rather than central Alanya saves 15–25 minutes each way. See where to stay.

Boardwalk, waterfall and a riverside lunch — in one day

Sapadere is about an hour inland from Alanya, and a guided day trip takes care of the mountain road, the entrance and lunch. Compare jeep safaris and coach tours and book in a couple of taps.

Getting there: FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How far is Sapadere Canyon from Alanya?

About 45 km, or roughly an hour by road.

Is the road to Sapadere dangerous?

It is paved and used daily by coaches, but it is narrow and winding. Confident drivers have no trouble in daylight; avoid it after dark or in heavy rain.

Can I get there by public transport?

Only with patience: a bus to Demirtaş, then one of the few dolmuşes to Sapadere village. Check return times first.

Is there a tour from Side or Antalya?

From Side, yes — see the tours page. From Antalya city the distance makes it an impractically long day.
